Karl Blossfeldt (June 13, 1865 – December 9, 1932) ,German photographer, sculptor,

Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer, sculptor, teacher and artist who worked in Berlin, Germany.

He is best known for his close-up photographs of plants and living things.

Karl Blossfeldt was born in Schiele,Harz, Germany.

He studied art at the Institute of Royal Arts and Museum (later named College of Fine Arts) in Berlin between 1884 and 1890.During he participated in a project run by Moritz Meurer he started systematically documenting plant samples photographically. 1898 he started teaching at the Institute of the Royal Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin and continued working there as a professor from 1921 until 1930. His first exhibition was held in 1926 at the Nierendorf Gallery in Berlin; and published the book Urformen der Kunst in 1928.Blossfeldt died in a Berlin hospital of a scrotal tumor on December 9, 1932.

Die Bilder des Künstlers entziehen sich gezielt eindeutigen Festlegungen, binden sich nicht an starre Dogmen oder Normen und können sich deshalb einem weiten Spektrum an Ausdruck öffnen.

Die Basis in seiner Kunst bilden die experimentelle Improvisation und der Einsatz von Zufall als bewusste Stilmittel. Sind doch gerade diese Elemente auch in unserer Umwelt dafür verantwortlich, dass immer wieder neue, lebendige Strukturen entstehen. Diese Gedanken vom Leben mit der Unvorhersehbarkeit der Geschehnisse und der Experimentierfreude der Natur faszinieren den Künstler und haben eine für ihn spirituelle Bedeutung, weshalb sie sich stets wie rote Fäden durch sein Werk ziehen. Michael Frieske arbeitet seit Mitte der 1990er Jahre mit verschiedenen Materialien, meistens mit farbintensiver Ölfarbe.

Peter Witzik fühlt sich keinen Regeln und Techniken verpflichtet. Seine Kunst, mit einem breit gefächerten Aktionsradius, ist ein wahrer Mix aus Experiment, Intuition und Lebenserfahrung. Seine exzellenten Kreationen beeindrucken ungemein. Der Betrachter befindet sich in einer bunten Traumwelt, in der er auch recht fröhlich assoziieren kann, ohne zwanghaft interpretieren zu müssen. Inhalt und Aussage, eingelassene Assoziationen, Korrespondenz und Ästhetik: Diese Kriterien erfüllt Witzik meisterlich mit gefühlvoller Hand. Seine Bilder weisen deutlich assoziativ auf die heutige Gesellschaft hin, in der viele gezwungen sind, eine Maske zu tragen bzw. ihre Seele zu entzweien. Die Werke korrespondieren miteinander, was auch wichtig ist, zeigt es doch, dass der Künstler sich treu ist und eine Entwicklung durchgemacht hat. Seine Arbeiten sind gekonnt harmonisch und weisen auf eine tiefe Sicht in die Dinge hin. So kommt man nicht umhin festzustellen, dass man es hier mit einem lebenserfahrenen Menschen zu tun hat, der mit analytischem Blick die Welt umwandert, um seine Spuren zu hinterlassen.

Nathan Sawaya is a New York-based artist who creates awesome and unique works out of some of the most unlikely things.

Born in Colville, Washington and raised in Veneta, Oregon, Sawaya's childhood dreams were always fun. He drew cartoons, wrote stories, perfected magic tricks and also played with LEGO. Sawaya attended NYU. After college he rediscovered LEGO but not as a toy, but rather as a medium.

Today Sawaya has more than 1.5 million colored bricks in his New York art studio. His work is obsessively and painstakingly crafted and is both beautiful and playful. Sawaya's ability to transform LEGO bricks into something new, his devotion to scale and color perfection, the way he conceptualizes the action of the subject matter, enables him to elevate an ordinary toy to the status of fine art.

Sawaya's art form takes shape primarily in 3-dimensional sculptures and oversized portraits. He continues to create daily while accepting commission work from around the world.

How does the Song of Solomon sound in the times after Diderot and Baudelaire, after Kinski's Villon sighs, »wild for your strawberry mouth«? This is not the singing of the shy virgin for flowery meadows and the tender risks of her beloved shepherd, not the singing of the more daring lover about the divine grace of the beloved – surrounded by murmuring tones from the shepherd's pipe and lute.
Flown away with the centuries is the Anacreontic flirting. She who sings remains herself. She is the self-certain beloved and sings about herself and also sings about him, the invisible You. She sings with vulnerable boldness and triumphs through the mutual passion. She sings with a raw, with a gently enticing, with a moaning and with a soulful voice. She sings the longing of her desire, of her hungry lust, of her predatory craving, wants to be inescapably captured and also remove all of the shackles at the same time. These songs, these words by Sarah Ines, rakishly run over depths of still dark premonition - shrouded and fit together by the brusque, flattering and dissonantly unbridled and once again calming chords. The drawings of Guenter Ludwig are archaic, earthy and burning as they eavesdrop on the sounds of love, the words of longing, the sighs of desire, capture them and give them form.
Both are performed in a dialog, word and image. Both are in harmony, both communicate with what is concealed, opening up with all of the senses to the insatiable desire to see and hear, willing to give oneself up and plunge into the hellfire that is in reality paradise. They are ready to succumb to the Siren's song that lives to beguile those who pass by, so that he will stay and lose himself in her forever. The autonomous person of the modern age is this woman-image of Sarah Ines, who discovers and understands herself, who is creaturely sufficient unto herself and inexhaustibly wants more and entices from her reclining position. The breathless fleeing of her feverish lust fantasy tries to aesthetically restrain itself in a light, lyrical arrangement. Ecstatic yet simultaneously a foe of all constraints, the woman reveals herself to illustrator Guenter Ludwig as the natural ruler who rises up from the origins of the upheaving centre of life, the pulsating womb of lust and the passing of all things, the unavoidable temptation and the exhaustion, who can exist and wants to exist. She is Venus, Aphrodite, Eve and the goddesses of fertility who often form from thin traces of smoke - as if they came from the void - or out of a simple chalk line. They are ageless, and each individual one exist in the universe for the one You as he comes closer and shares a fleeting moment, forgetting the rest of the world.
The illustrator listens and transfixes this moment. He conveys the dissipating event, the self-consuming feeling of the feminine self of the poet that sets free the swarming passion and woos with multitudinous sounds of the one You. As the words fade away, they are captured in the picture. It encloses them. And they find pleasure in wooing the imagined moments and how both unite to stop the passing of desire.

Herman Leonard, the greatest jazz photographer of our time, was born in 1923 in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In 1948 Leonard opened a studio in Greenwich Village where he did commercial work for Life, Look, Esquire, Playboy, and Cosmopolitan, and made portraits of movie and theater stars. At night he roamed the jazz nightclubs on 52nd Street, Broadway, and in Harlem, often trading the admission fee for free photographs of the musicians the club owners could use for publicity. He befriended and photographed the greatest jazz musicians of that era: Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, and many others.

Besides photographing jazz musicians in Europe Leonard shot images for Dior, Chanel, Yves St. Laurent, and other major clients.

The Smithsonian Institution has the entire set of photographs from Leonard's Images of Jazz portfolio in its permanent collection.

Artist Statement

My artwork addresses a range of human emotions and social situations through the process of fabricating objects and altering found objects. Sophisticated and often humorous, these objects are self referential in nature and use themes and symbols inherent in popular culture as metaphors to address issues of vanity, insecurity, life and death.

Where are you from?

I was born in Sabadell, but part of my childhood and youth I grew up in Barcelona, Spain.

Why are you an artist,and when did you first become one?
What is your purpose?

Artist because the activity we do has an aesthetic purpose and we express ideas and emotions with different resources. The assumption that I am an artist by interest came as a gallery to exhibit my work. From that moment I decided to take my work to light.My purpose is to communicate in another language, in this case plastic.

What's the best and worst parts of being a full time, working artist?

The painting has a very important piece in my life but this is not my only motivation existential. I do not want to forget that there are other emotions and experiences that also enrich me.

How is, or should refer the word "passion" to an artist?

The artist's work is not only a product of the unconscious, is powered by observation, investigation and discipline.
I live the creative act with emotion but at the same time calmly.

What is your favorite quote relating to art?

"The painter is the artist who has more decisions per minute while working." Antonio Saura.

What advice would you give to other artists?

They are true to themselves.

What issue in our society inspire you to make a piece of art?

I am inspired by women, their volumes .... is like a landscape.

What techniques you use to create art?

In general, oil, acrylic.

When did you start drawing / painting, and what was the reason?

Draw ever. I started painting already in my adult life, thirteen years ago, as an expressive need. I was born into a family where art was breathed. My father was an amateur painter, who tought me, that painting can be used as another medium to communicate my feelings.
What form of art do you feel the most affection for?

Difficult to answer, I like art in general, of the past and contemporaries. Art feeds on art.

¿De dónde eres?

Nací en Sabadell, pero parte de mi infancia y juventud transcurrió en Barcelona, España.

¿Por qué eres artista, y cuando te has convertido en uno?
¿Cuál es tu propósito?

Se es artista porque la actividad que realizamos tiene una finalidad estética mediante la cual expresamos ideas y emociones con diferentes recursos. El asumir que soy artista vino dado por el interés de una galería por exponer mi obra. A partir de ese momento decidí sacar mi obra a la luz. Mi proposito es comunicarme con otro lenguaje, en este caso el plástico.

¿Cúal es lo mejor y la peor parte de trabajar como artista a tiempo completo?

La pintura tiene una parcela muy importante en mi vida..No es mi única motivación existencial. No quiero olvidar que hay otras emociones y vivencias que también me enriquecen.

¿Cuál debe referirse la palabra "pasión" en un artista?.

El trabajo del artista, no es solo un producto del inconsciente, se alimenta de la observación, la investigación y la disciplina.
El acto creativo lo vivo con emoción y al mismo tiempo con serenidad.

¿Cuál es tú cita favorita referente al Arte?

"El pintor es el artista que toma más decisiones por minuto mientras trabaja". Antonio Saura.

¿Qué consejos darías a los artistas?

Que sean fieles a sí mismos.

¿Qué tema de nuestra sociedad te inspira para hacer una obra de Arte?

Me inspira la mujer, sus volúmenes....es como un paisaje.

¿Qué medios utilizas para crear?

En general, óleo, acrílico.

¿Cuando empezaste a dibujar/pintar, y cual fue el motivo?

Dibujar de siempre. Empecé a pintar ya en mi madurez, hace trece años, como una necesidad expresiva. Nací en el seno de una familia donde se respiraba el arte, mi padre era pintor aficionado, lo que ha influido a la hora de utilizar la pintura como otro medio donde también puedo comunicar mis sentimientos.

¿A qué forma de Arte te sientes más afectado?

Difícil respuesta, me gusta el Arte en general, del pasado como el contemporáneo. El Arte se alimenta del Arte.

Arno Fischer

For many, he was one of the greatest photographers of the old GDR. His photographs always tell stories of humanity and human existence, making him seem too politically sustainable. On Tuesday, Arno Fischer (born 1927) died at the age of 84.

Fischer's motives were not only popular impressions of a divided Berlin at the time of the GDR. For the fashion magazine "Sibylle" he made famous photographs and publications. Here, he finally met the chief editor of the magazine and his future wife, Sibylle Bergemann. She died six months ago.

Arno Fischer was also teacher. As a visiting lecturer at the Art Academy Berlin-Weissensee and the Fachhochschule Dortmund and Professor at the School of Visual Arts in Leipzig, he became a guide for the younger generation.

Arno Fischer was with his solo exhibition "Photographs 1953-2006" at the Berlin gallery, where he also received the Hannah Hoch-Preis 2010.

Project Founder: Artstudio Norarts

This project is a collaboration between artists and women who have survived breast cancer or are struggling with the disease. The purpose of this project is to give these women the courage to show that a woman is also a woman without breasts, that life goes on and prove that women do not have to hide. Because it seems to be an unspoken rule in this society ... physical integrity must be restored to any price. We wish that the society finally accepts that nothing will be as before, just as patients have to feel it first hand. We wish that these women have in collaboration with artists, magical moments, moments of joy and unforget moments. We want to prove with art and our support as artists the courage of these women.

Planned are photographic projects, paintings and sculptures of women in collaboration with artists such as Creation of a song in collaboration with experienced musicians.

I ask for help to make this artistic project with altruistic purposes, ie there is no money in the way, but the satisfaction of helping people as fragile woman with breast cancer.

Born on April 5 th 1913, Antoni Clavé was an artist with a story one doesn’t find every day. The
artist’s parents asked the four year old the traditional question of what he would like to do when he grew up. As if Antoni knew from the day he was born that he was destined to be an artist, he replied “I’m going to draw pictures.” This came as deeply disturbing to his parents, who were time and time again reminded of that ambition on occasions like when Antoni was punished in class for sketching on his exercise books instead of writing sentences and sums. Being a child with an ambition, nature had a way of providing what the little boy asked for. At the age of 13 (1926), he was unexpectedly accepted as a trainee student at Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge (College of Fine Arts of San Jorge) in Barcelona. His teachers were Félix Mestres, Josep Mongrell and Angel Ferrant.

Clavé had started to work as an apprentice house painter by then (1927), a job he had gotten through his teacher, Josep Mongrell, because Antoni Clavé found himself fascinated by the hands-on side of painting and especially the materials used for such work and wanted to learn how to prepare paints. Due to this job he could only attend evening classes. Even at that time, when it was almost impossible for a full time artist to make a living out of selling paintings, Antoni was determined to make a mark in the world as an artist and felt very confident that he would.

In 1932 Clavé stopped attending the evening classes at the College of Fine Arts of San Jorge and, at the recommendation of Illescas (an architect), was employed at the firm of Cinaes, where his job was to design weekly cinema posters. On the side, Antoni Clavé also worked for a children’s magazine and designed advertisement posters until 1936, when the Spanish Civil War broke out. In 1937 Clavé enlisted for two years on the Republican side. With the victory of Franco’s Nationalists, he escaped from Catalonia, making his way across Pyrenees to France, where he lived in exile for the rest of his life.

Clavé was a lucky man, because shortly after he completed a distressing period of detention at a refugee camp (the location of which has been lost in translation), he reached France (1939), where he found temporary jobs. There is conflict between the natures of the jobs he found in France. Some say he worked as a comics and an illustrator, whereas some say he worked as a painter, decorator and later, a poster artist, among other thing. Either way, in the meantime, due to working so much in the field of art, Clavé found his own style in painting landscapes and portraits. In the 1940’s came a time in the artist’s life where he experimented with his work, using techniques borrowed from a variety of influences such as, Surrealism, Cubism and Collage on wallpaper, wood and metal, which led to experiments with Lithography. Clavé’s motifs back then were scenes of tranquil domesticity tinged with melancholy, puppet like female figures, children, clowns and harlequins. In his commercial work, he is also said to have specialized in fine Spanish books with themes like Prosper Mérimée's Lettres d'Espagne (Prosper Merimee’s Letters from Spain) (1943) and Carmen (1946). He followed these with Pushkin’s Queen of Spades (1946), Voltaire’s Candide (1948) and Rabelais’s Gargantua (1953). Also between 1946 and 1950, Clavé did a lot of work designing for ballets and theater in Paris, Munich, London and New York. In 1949 he designed both the costumes and scenery for Roland Petit’s Ballet des Champa-Elysees, and Ballabile for Sadler’s Wells Ballet.

In 1950, Clavé turned to book illustrations, until 1956, when he ceased to work as a stage-set designer and illustrator to devote himself entirely to painting, visiting Spain again after two complete decades. In 1957 Clavé started designing carpets, and from 1960, he started sculpture. His early exhibitions had not been successful. In fact, at first Clavé did not sell any artwork at all. He was later commissioned by the Opera de Paris, which eventually led to his creation of the scenery and costumes for the triumphant production of The Marriage of Figaro by Mozart at the festival d’Aix-en-Provence (1962). By that time, Clavé and Pablo Picasso had formed a tight friendship, which played a role (coupled with the successes of Clavé’s art by that time) in improving his serious painting and to find dealers and buyers for Clavé’s art.

Unlike most sculptors, Clavé did not have assistants, he did everything by himself. Also unlike most artists, he resented the method of making small mock-ups for his mostly large scale works. He referred to it as cheating, a method that led to facile and mechanical reproductive work. He disregarded art created in this manner as “mere enlargements”.

After Pablo Picasso pointed out to Clavé that he needs to learn how to stop a painting by saying “you wear the subject out”, it was sculpture that helped Clavé learn how to control that.

Judging by this statement, and this statement alone, an interpretation can be made that Clavé enjoyed painting because every step was a step into the unknown, so to speak. Painting could have been like watching a thriller movie, and feeling a jolt every time something new came up.

By 1972, Clavé’s shows were massive successes both financially and artistically. All the work was equally inspiring to other artists as it was appealing to potential customers. Since then, Clavé’s work has toured the world, although his work was little shown in Britain.

The Spanish pavilion at the 1984 Venice Biennale was dedicated to Antoni Clavé. He returned in 1990 to Barcelona, where he had been commissioned to make a large-scale sculpture commemorating his native city's Universal Exhibition of 1988. That great work dominates the Plaza de la Ciudadela, now a memorial to Barcelona's absent son.

As an artist, you are able to visualize with your mind’s eye what you want transmit in your artwork . To have the wonderful talent and be able to lay that image down on paper, canvas, or as a photograph. But artists need to come up with an original idea plus the right means to execute it. So they seek out sources that inspire them.Artists need outside influences o muses who inspire the creation of the art. Every artist, great and small needs inspiration and every artist is inspired by different things.

Here are some ways to feed your creativity

Finding Inspiration in Real LifeThe real world is always a great source of inspiration. You can find inspiration in the small things, only you have to open your eyes.
If you are into people, city scenes, or landscapes, you can only get ideas by going out and observing these things. You cannot create it if you have never seen it. Go sit and watch people on the street. Capture these moments with a camara to take back to the studio.

Getting Inspired by EmotionsSome artists get inspired by their emotions. Emotions can give ideas and help shape the overall mood. If you are happy, you might be inspired to do something in bright and lively colors and Sadness can lead to dark artworks.Use your emotions to guide you and find ways to convey that to something visual.

DreamsDreams are another great source of inspiration.Dreams have helped to create entire art movements such as Symbolism and Expressionism. A good habit for artists is to sleep with a pen and pad of paper next to the bed. If you wake up from a particularly inspiring dream, write it down before you forget it.

MusicMusic can inspire an artist just as easily as a picture. Music creates a mood and is closely tied with using emotions in art. Put on some music that you like that is appropriate for getting in the right frame of mind.

Consult Other ArtistsMany artists are very supportive of others in their community and are more than happy to give and receive advice. Go to gallery openings and talk with other artists. Hang out in their studio and see what they have been working on. There are also online art communities where you can chat or post topics in forums.

Hundertwasser is one of the most important artists & architects to emerge from the latter half of the 20th-century and is certainly by far the most important Austrian one. Friedrich Hundertwasser was born in Vienna on December 15th, 1928 as Friedrich Stowasser. Hundertwasser has produced his first juvenile drawings in the year 1934. He spent three months at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, under Prof. Robin Christian Andersen. At around this time he became lastingly influenced by a Walter Kampmann exhibition. 1949 he started journeys to to North Italy, Tuscany, Rome, Napoli & Sicily. Developed his own style and adopted the name Hundertwasser. In Florence he met René Brô and followed him to Paris

The following year Hundertwasser stayed with Brô and the Dumage family in Paris and painted two murals together with Brô in Saint Mandé.

In 1952, Hundertwasser had his first exhibition at the Art Club of Vienna.

In 1959 he received the Sanbra Prize at the 5th Sao Paulo Biennial. 1959 he founded the Pintorarium, a universal academy of all creative fields, together with Ernst Fuchs and Arnulf Rainer. As guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, he drew the Endless Line with Bazon Brock and Herbert Schuldt. 1960 he visited Japan and received the Mainichi Prize at the 6th International Art Exhibition, Tokyo. 1967 Hundertwasser traveled to Uganda and the Sudan. A touring exhibition of his work was seen in galleries in Paris, London, Geneva & Berlin.

1976 he started his World touring exhibition: Tel Aviv, Warsaw, Reykjavik, Copenhagen & Dakar. Albertina graphic tour in the USA: Hanover, Brooklyn, Maryland.

1982, Hundertwasser redesigned the facade of the Rosenthal Factory of Selb. Made ceramic tongue-beards for the facade of the Museum Rupertinum, Salzburg.

On 17 February 1986 the Hundertwasser House was turned over to the tenants; 70,000 visitors visited the Open House. Friedrich Hundertwasser worked on the design of the Brockhaus encyclopaedia, through 1986 & into the following year.

1991 was completed the KunstHaus Wien which opened on April, 9. Conceptualised and developed architectural projects thus: the Thermal Village Blumau, Styria, for Rogner Austria, which is based on Hundertwasser's Rolling Hills.

Why are you an artist,and when did you first become one?

What is your purpose?

Art is the best thing that describes my person. It is a life journey. The purpose of this artistic journey is not to arrive, is the journey itself: to grow, experiment, transformed while in displacement. The purpose is to keep moving and be enriched by the experiences.

Where does the subject in your art come from and how you get your inspiration? What inspires you?

How do you keep motivated when things get tough in the studio?

I am inspired by my cultural references intuitive and emotional. The Life in general, nature in its most abstract, literature, art and symbolism, anthropology ...

What famous artists have influenced you, and how?

I like any art form that speaks with intelligence and emotion. Not discriminate between trends or styles. Everything can be interesting if done rigorously. I practice material abstraction in my work because I prefer the connotation to denotation.Suggest more to say. In this sense, I deeply admire the abstract work of Antoni Clave, Antoni Tàpies and Barceló Miquel, among an endless list of interesting artists.

What's the best and worst parts of being a full time, working artist?

The best thing is that art becomes the engine of your life.You live a Intensely creative full time.The worst are the obsessions derived from this complete dedication. Work means not only do work, but to look, feel, find, reflect and take time to unwind from time to time. Leaving the studio and see things with fresh eyes.

How is, or should refer the word "passion" to an artist?

Passion is the essential energy that nourishes the artist. Without passion it is impossible to perform this work. The art is hard as the pure life. Requires much effort and mental toughness. Nobody gives you nothing and only perseverance allows you to get a result after years of work. Passion helps you better go this complicated and difficultway way.

What is your favorite quote relating to art?

There are many, but one of my favorites is this phrase from Goethe: "If I paint my dog exactly as it is, of course I have two dogs, but not a work of art." Not just mindlessly copying reality. One must know how to interpret it through the three essential intelligences: emotion, reason and intuition. The art in all its tendencies and artistic styles, is a subjective interpretation of reality. And that individual subjectivity is born, the transforming power and ability to engage and make us think.

What advice would you give to other artists?

That they are themselves and their circumstances. There are not two people alike.

What issue in our society inspire you to make a piece of art?

The vicissitudes of the human odyssey, with its lights and shadows.

What techniques you use to create art?

Primarily iron oxide, minerals and acrylic resins. The iron and other material reflecting the passage of time. It oxidizes and ages ago as a living being. It is an almost biological metal. Changes its appearance and texture with the effects of weather, in contact with the ground. Becomes an allegory of the endless transformation of the universe, the fleeting and provisional nature of everything. Yet despite the undeniable drama of this whole process, pig iron contains a powerful and strange beauty. Beauty in the manner of the poet Rilke, who was saying that true beauty is in terrible things.

When did you start drawing / painting, and what was the reason?

In my house was always a certain artistic environment. My father was an amateur painter and his profession was carpenter. But the key moment was in my teens. At age 13, I joined as a student in the School of Art and Design in Barcelona (La Massana). That experience changed my life. I graduated in Applied Arts and met many interesting people who were instrumental in my development.

What form of art do you feel the most affection for?

Indeed abstract art. Because it´s pure visual poetry and requires participation to complete it. The art style is the most open possible.

Each persons interprets it their own way and each interpretation may be valid. In the same way that the polyhedron has many faces, abstract art has multiple meanings. and a latent mystery that never ends to decipher.

¿Cuál es la mejor y la peor parte de trabajar como artista a tiempo completo?

Lo mejor es que el arte se convierte en el motor de tu vida. Vives intensamente la creatividad a tiempo completo. Lo peor son las obsesiones derivadas de esa completa dedicación. Trabajar no significa sólo hacer obras, sino observar, sentir, encontrar, reflexionar y tener tiempo para desconectar de vez en cuando. Salir del taller y ver las cosas con mirada renovada.

¿Cómo debe referirse la palabra "pasión"a un artista?

La pasión es la energía indispensable que nutre al artista. Sin pasión es imposible ejercer este trabajo. El arte (y su mercado) es duro como es dura la vida. Requiere mucho esfuerzo y fortaleza mental. Nadie te regala nada y sólo la perseverancia te permite obtener algún resultado después de años de trabajo. La pasión te ayuda a recorrer mejor este camino complicado y difícil.

¿Cuál es tú cita favorita referente al arte?

Hay muchas, pero una de mis favoritas es esta frase de Goethe: “Si yo pinto mi perro exactamente como es, naturalmente tendré dos perros, pero no una obra de arte”. No basta con copiar mecánicamente la realidad. Hay que saber interpretarla a través de las tres inteligencias esenciales: emoción, razón, e intuición. El arte, en todas sus tendencias y estilos artísticos, es una interpretación subjetiva de la realidad. Y de esa subjetividad individual nace su fuerza transformadora y su capacidad para involucrarnos y hacernos pensar.

¿Qué consejo darías a los otros artistas?

Que sean ellos mismos y sus circunstancias. No hay dos personas iguales.

¿Qué tema de nuestra sociedad te inspiraría para hacer una obra de arte?

La vicisitudes de la odisea humana, con sus luces y sus sombras.

¿Qué medios utilizas para crear arte?

Principalmente hierro oxidado, resinas minerales y acrílico. El hierro refleja como ningún otro material el paso del tiempo. Se oxida y envejece como lo hace un ser vivo. Es un metal casi biológico. Cambia su aspecto y su textura con los efectos de la climatología, con el contacto con la tierra. Deviene una alegoría de la incesante transformación del universo, del carácter efímero y provisional de todo. Y sin embargo, pese al dramatismo innegable de todo este proceso, el hierro oxidado encierra una potente y extraña belleza. Belleza a la manera del poeta Rilke, el cual venía a decir que la auténtica belleza se halla en las cosas terribles.

¿Cuándo empezaste a dibujar / pintar, y cuál fue el motivo?

En mi casa siempre hubo un cierto ambiente artístico. Mi padre era pintor aficionado y carpintero de profesión. Pero el momento clave ocurrió en mi adolescencia. A los 13 años, ingresé como estudiante en la Escuela de Arte y Diseño de Barcelona (Massana). Aquella experiencia cambió mi vida. Me gradué en Artes Aplicadas y conocí a muchas personas interesantes que fueron decisivas en mi evolución posterior.

¿A qué forma de arte te sientes más afectado?

Al arte abstracto sin duda. Porque es poesía visual en estado puro y precisa de la participación del espectador para ser completado. Es el estilo de arte más abierto posible. Cada persona lo interpreta a su manera y cada interpretación puede ser válida. De la misma manera que el poliedro tiene muchas caras, el arte abstracto posee múltiples significados. Y un misterio latente que nunca se acaba de descifrar.

Wouter Chapelle / Photographer .He grows up in Poperinge, Belgium.He started with photography at a young age, inspired by family members. He learned by experimenting and so evolved my technique and knowledge. A school education is not given to him.
He loves black and white photography, grit, emotion, poetry, ... Inspired by other arts, artists and writers, hit in another direction. In a book of D. Nightingale he reads about light painting and he was sold.
Some say that his technique is simple. That's true ... But it's not about the technique ... It's the other view ... Capturing an image that our human eye can not see. It is about emotion and above all imagination.
He hopes you find some emotion and imagination in his works. That is his essence.

What is Surrealism?

Surrealism is a cultural movement that began in the mid-1920s, and is best known for the visual artworks and writings. Surrealism was formed with the most important center of the movement in Paris and from the 1920s spreading around the globe.

According to the major spokesman of the movement, the poet and critic André Breton, who published "The Surrealist Manifesto" in 1924, Surrealism was a means of reuniting conscious and unconscious realms of experience so completely, that the world of dream and fantasy would be joined to the everyday rational world in "an absolute reality, a surreality."Surrealism, so suggested Breton in this book, was repressive to the powers of imagination and artistic expression.

One of the most famous surreal artists was Salvador Dali.

Yves Tanguy was born in Paris, France on January 5, 1900.He was introduced into the Surrealist group in 1925, met André Breton, the poet and film director in 1926 and was counted among the Surrealist painters from this date.His first works was influenced by Masson, Ernst and Miro. In the year 1927 he had his first exhibition in Paris.Tanguy saw a painting by de Chirico in the window of a gallery and was inspired enough by this work to become a painter himself.
1948 Tanguy became a naturalized American citizen, and converted with his wife, the painter Kay Sage, an old Connecticut farmhouse into an atelier. There he painted his rocky Surrealistic landscapes.Tanguy´s work has a unique style of surrealism and he was known for his vast landscapes, limited color palette, and abstract shapes.Tanguy made no attempt to explain his images or to give them titles; what titles there are were those suggested by friends. He died in Woodbury on Jan. 15, 1955

Today we show you some photographs by the polish painter, photographer and sculptor Zdzisław Beksiński.

He is also known as fantasy artist.

Beksiński's was known to be a pleasant person who took enjoyment from conversation and had a keen sense of humor. He was exceptionally modest and somewhat shy, avoiding public events such as the openings of his own exhibitions. He credited music as his main source of inspiration.

On 21 February 2005, Beksiński was found dead in his flat in Warsaw with 17 stab wounds on his body Robert Kupiec was the murder.

Where does the subject in your art come from and how you get your inspiration? What inspires you?
How do you keep motivated when things get tough in the studio?

My inspiration is the Woman...a powerful woman....the woman, god's best creation. My favorite subject is female form as it combined or connected with other elements in nature...and portraits with a soul...

Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul and you answer...i work when i feel a need.

What famous artists have influenced you, and how?

My favorite artist is Zdzislaw Beksinski ...if i see his works i can feel them...and Frida Kahlo , my main influence for many of the reasons above...painfull and beautifull Frida.

What's the best and worst parts of being a full time, working artist?

I think that to be a full time working artist it's a big big gift, because you can put all of you in the art.

How is, or should refer the word "passion" to an artist?

Art without passion is like body without a soul...

What is your favorite quote relating to art?

What advice would you give to other artists?

Only be an artist with all your soul and be very honest in your art.

What issue in our society inspire you to make a piece of art?

Love...love...love.

What techniques you use to create art?

I work in many mediums,but my art over the years has changed styles,and i find myself in digitalart.

When did you start drawing / painting, and what was the reason?

Since i remember myself...so i don't really remember but i think it's because i always loved visual art.my first drawings? Women.

Where are you from?

I am from Holland, since 1973 I live in Israel.

Why are you an artist,and when did you first become one?
what is your purpose?

Since I remember myself it was their, it took a while and some experience in life before the vulcano exploded.
my purpose --keep on creating,just"BE".

Where does the subject in your art come from and how you get your inspiration? What inspires you?
How do you keep motivated when things get tough in the studio?

In my works with Asnat Greenberg the inspiration came in our search for materials to work with.
We make works on big industrial iron plates,using old authentic elements from the different cultures in our region,in a way giving respect to the beauty in each culture.
When I work with wood ,I get inspired by the wood itself.
I also paint,using only black and white,I have no subject,I dont plan what I am doing,it is" being present in the moment".My paintings are abstract and minimalistic,a direct expression of my emotions.
I can be inspired by many things,anything beautifull,leonard cohen,zen gardens,hearing birds sing,a book,people etc etc.
I am not always motivated, feeling stuck ,I just let it be,I ques this is part of the deal,it always passes.

What famous artists have influenced you, and how?

Rothko,he made me want to paint long time ago.

What's the best and worst parts of being a full time, working artist?

The best part is when I am working or when I finish a painting,the worst part in the studio are the dips,when I am not motivated,but I believe that these moments are important.
another part I dont like,promoting myself,I love to be in the studio and thats it.

How is, or should refer the word "passion" to an artist?

I believe that passion is important in whatever we do,specially in art,its a language that speaks from heart to heart.
If I was not passionate about creating art I would not be an artist.

What is your favorite quote relating to art?

Less is more. (Robert Browning).

What advice would you give to other artists?

Believe in yourself.

What issue in our society inspire you to make a piece of art?

Whats going on in our society at the moment is not encouraging,their is injustice, a lot of pain for so many people on this planet ,this makes me want to paint peacefull paintings.

What techniques you use to create art?

When I paint,I paint in layers,using knife,cloth,or brush.
my ink and graphite drawings are made in one session,the preperation is long,making the ink from an ink block,and using that time to meditate,when I feel ready I start.with this kind of work I am totally present in the moment.

When did you start drawing / painting, and what was the reason?

I started drawing long time ago,when I came to Israel in 73,
painting a little later,
why? dont know,I just did,I enjoy it very much,I feel a need.

What form of art do you feel the most affection for?

I feel affection for contemporary minimalistic art of any kind.

Where are you from?

Why you make art, what is your purpose?

As first, to communicate my inquietude

and second because I need to feel me more complete.

Where does the subject in your art come from and how you get your inspiration? What inspires you?

Of the female figure, she is my starting point and destination, even when I paint the man.
I find my inspiration in the historical social conditions of women.

Women always had a choice in the eyes of society: or is bitch or is holy, is not seen as being so the man shares the universe now known. It is a world of men, mostly men who oppress the oppressed be immediately next to him: WOMEN.

How is, or should refer the word "passion" to an artist?

Passion is a subjective term. The art is objective, but there are those who say they painted or created by passion, I think before it gives an intellectual process.

The creators of fauve art, were objective, the creators of abstract art are objective. It is a golden rule that is done consciously or unconsciously. REASON, INSTITUTION and EMOTION, is at stake to give harmony to creation.

What is your favorite quote relating to art?

"Art is for all " for those that inspire it, those creates,admires,sells, buys and for those that do not care.

What advice would you give to other artists?

I can not give advice to anyone, everyone is free to create whatever. but to give an opinion it would be:

Be yourself and leave the others!

What issue in our society inspire you to make a piece of art?

The subject that inspires and mention me, and make the world unity, - the claim of human being as transcendental in this planet. Back at the beginning, to the community and enough with such technology and little love to the neighbor.

What medias you use to create art?

Materiales: acrylic paint, charcoal, canvas, cardboard, etc.
Consistency with what you think.
Radical Media: all visceral, brain, heart, liver, uterus, and finally hands.

When did you start drawing / painting, and what was the reason?

Actually we live in times of "liberties," want to say I believe that the influence of a stream or any particular artist, would be a lie, we all influence of all. The times that belong to a school or style was almost religious to me and I think that for many have passed it.It is important to surprise yourself. It is very simple refuse to be the same.
The earlier artists, once they found their "style" very personal and did not move never so I admire Pablo Picasso. Dali once said it was a "Pick it all." ,but he opened many ways and almost leaves us with nothing.
I am drawing since i was six years old. I copied wing caricature perfectly. Soon I had my own style to illustrate my stories.When i was going to exhibit, I did not do the classic film full of letters, drawings summarized ,everything related to the theme. My first drawings were women, women rarely caused me a certain fascination. I was very young. When I met the surrealist art I took hold of it, I identified me, I drew surrealism without knowing the terms.

What art form are you most concerned?
I LOVE CONTEMPORARY ART.

Apparently, you're also a writer and writes poetry.
What are your issues? What inspired you to start writing?

When I wrote my first book just four years ago, all I rushed to my head memories, desires and so on.In one month I wrote ASOR (ROSA AL REVES) is a story of love, fiction, erotic, wholesale clear-cut.
The main characters of my stories are always women, bold women, bitches, with trial and determination of their own, I fell in love with my characters.And what encouraged me to write is that I wanted to say more things than I could paint.The word is much more fluid than the image. "They say a picture says more as thousand words" but I also add that a word can be represented by thousand pictures.

¿De dónde eres?

¿Por qué haces arte, ¿Cuál es tú propósito?

Primero comunicar mis inquietudes y segundo porque me hace falta para sentirme mas completa.

¿De dónde viene el sujeto en tú arte y cómo sacas tu inspiración?¿Que te inspira?

De la figura femenina, la mujer es mi punto de partida y de llegada, aún cuando pinto al hombre.
Mi inpiración es las condiciones historico social de las mujeres. Las mujeres siempre han tenido una disyuntiva ante los ojos de la sociedad: o es puta o es santa, no se le ve como al ser conque el hombre comparte el universo hasta ahora conocido. Es un mundo de hombres, en su mayoria hombres oprimidos los cuales oprimen al ser inmediato a su lado : LA MUJER.

¿Cómo debe referirse la palabra "pasión"a un artista?

La pasiòn es un tèrmino subjetivo. En el arte se es objetivo, aunque haya quienes dicen que pintan ocrean por pasòn, creo que antes de eso hay un proceso intelectual. Los creadores del arte fauve, eran objetivos, los creadores de arte por demas abstracto, son objetivos. Es una regla de oro que consciente o inconscientemente se realiza. LA RAZON, LA INTUICION Y LA EMOCION, se pone en juego para dar armonìa a la creaciòn.

¿Cuál es tú cita favorita referente al arte?

"El arte es de todos" del que lo inspira, del que lo crea, del que lo admira, del que lo vende, del que lo compra y tambièn para el que no le importa.

¿Qué consejo darías a los otros artistas?

En el arte yo no le puedo dar consejos a nadie, cada quien es libre de crear como quiera. pero si de dar una opiniòn sería: Sè tu mismo y deja ser a los demàs

¿Qué tema de nuestra sociedad te inspiraría para hacer una obra de arte?

El tema que me inspira ya lo mencione, pero haría que el mundo se uniría, la reivindicaciòn del ser humano como ser trascendental en este planeta. Volver al principio, al de la colectividad y basta ya de tanta tecnologìa y poco amor al projimo.

¿Qué medios utiliza para crear arte?

Medios materiales, pintura acrilica, carboncillo, lienzo, cartulina, etc.

Medios inmateriales: LA CONGRUENCIA CON LO QUE PIENSO.
Medios radicales: todo lo viceral, cerebro, corazòn, hìgado, ùtero y por ùltimo las manos.

¿Cuándo empezaste a dibujar / pintar, y cuál fue el motivo?

Estamos en un tiempo de"libertades" en la actualidad, decir que creas por influencia de una corriente o de un artista tal o o cual, serìa mentir, todos nos influenciamos de todos. Los tiempos en que pertenecer a una escuela o un estilo era casi religioso para mi y creo que para muchos que ya pasaron. Es importante sorprenderse a uno mismo. Que flojera repetirte. Es muy rico negarse a ser el mismo. Los artistas anteriores, una vez que ya encontraban su "estilo" muy personal ya no se movian nunca, por eso admiro mucho a Pablo picasso. Dalì le dijo una vez que era "un recogelo todo" . Pero abriò muchos caminos y por poco nos deja sin nada, jajaja.

Dibujo desde a la edad de los seis años. Copiaba a la perfecciòn cualquier caricatura. Despues tuve mi propio estilo para ilustrar mis historias. En la escuela cuando pasaba a exponer, yo no hacìa las clasicas làminas llenas de letras, todo lo resumia en dibujos alusivos al tema. Mis primero dibujos fueron mujeres, mujeres raras que me causaban cierta fascinaciòn. era yo muy joven. Cuando conocì el arte surrealista me prendì de el, me identifique, yo dibujaba surrealismo sin conocer los tèrminos.

¿A qué forma de arte te sientes más afectado?

ME ENCANTA PARTE DEL ARTE CONTEMPORANEO.

Por lo visto, también eres escritora y además escribes poesia.
¿Cuales son tús temas? ¿Que te animó a empezar a escribir?

Cuando escribì mi primer libro hace apenas cuatro años, todo se me agolpo en la cabeza recuerdos, deseos etc. Lo escribì en un mes ASOR (ROSA AL REVES) Es una historia de amor, de ficcion, erotismo al por mayor bien delineado. El personaje protagònico de mis hitorias siempre son mujeres, mujeres intrepidas, mujeres audaces, mujeres cabronas, con juicio y determinaciones propias, me enamoro de mis personajes. Y lo que me animo a escribir es que queria decir mas cosas de lo que podia pintar. La palabra es mucho mas fluida que la imagen. "Dicen que una imàgen dice mas que mil palabras" pero yo añado que una palabra tambien se puede representar por mil imagenes. AMOR. SEXO. BASURA.

Born in Blainville-Crevon, Seine-Maritime, France (1887), died in Paris (1968).

He was a key figure in 20th century art, well known for his association with Dada, conceptual art and iconic paintings such as "Nude Descending a Staircase." He also originated the concept of readymades.

The above work of art, is an example of the images produced during the 1920′s Dada avant-garde art movement. This art movement has been known to disregard the ‘fundamentals of art’ and disrespecting art culture. As electronic culture advances as we move towards the future, electronic literature – like the Dada art movement – contradicts the conventional modes of information distribution. And along with its media aspects, the prominence of computer-produced -digital- objects/images will continue to grow in popularity in comparison to literary objects produced in the past.

For many years Duchamp had an underground reputation, with few exhibitions of his works. The leader of the surrealists, André Breton, and others made him into a legendary hero whose life and character were as important as his actual artistic productions. Duchamp lived an apparently contented private life, with a happy second marriage in 1954, and he maintained amicable if slightly ironic contacts with many contemporary artists. Only in the 1960s did he become internationally famous on a public level, when many American artists sought him out in New York and studied his works and ideas, because for them he was a far more important figure, with more contemporary relevance, than Pablo Picasso.

These are photos from the photo-book: ‘Amazonen’ by Uta Melle and friends. It’s a very touching and stunning photo series showing women who have fought against breast cancer. It portraits them in a live-hungry and strong way, but still shows their weakness and that they are hurt in their bodies and souls. As I heard from that project I was stunned and very impressed and touched. So we want to show this to you.

Artist´s Life: GUSTAV KLIMT

Austrian Painter, 1862-1918

Gustav Klimt was the principal Austrian Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) painter, and one of the founders of the Vienna Sezession (1898), although he resigned in 1903. He was essentially a decorator and, from 1883 to 1892, he shared a studio for decorative painting with his brother and another artist: they worked in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, in 1891. From c.1898, after a barren period of about six years, he was influenced by Japanese art and by contemporary English painters like Burne Jones and Alma-Tadema. A more realist style characterized his ceilings for Vienna University (1900-1903), which were very unpopular. He was perhaps most successful as a designer for the applied arts (e.g. mosaic).

FrieStyle is the art of the experimental musician and painter Michael Frieske from Bochum and Cologne, Germany.
He is very interested in the experimental working with colors and sounds - both as an understanding of a direct way to increase consciousness and subconsciousness!

Artist Statement:
I'm a painter & sound artist.

My works consciously withdraw themselves, both in the visual and within the auditive array, from clear definitions and do not commit themselves to rigid dogmas or standards. Therefore they can open a far spectrum of expression.

The groundwork of my art is experimenting and improvising and the use of coincidence as a conscious stylistic device. Because this unpredictability is it, which develops new structures again and again.

Born at Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1930, the painter and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle grew up in New York. At only eighteen she married the US writer Harry Matthews. After their divorce she lived with sculptor Jean Tinguely from 1960, through him she became a member of the Paris group of artists who called themselves "Nouveaux Réalistes".
In their group exhibition Niki presented her "rifle-shot" paintings for the first time: Niki de Saint Phalle used a gun to shoot paint balls at a canvas primed to a pastose texture using a surfacing mixture. Upon impact the paint balls burst and colored the relief. The aggressive act of shooting helped her to come to terms with the troubled relationship she had with her father. It was however her Nanas, the first of which emerged in 1964, that made Niki de Saint Phalle famous.
The buxom, colorful female figures, first made of wool, yarn, paper-maché and wire scaffoldings and later made of polyester, are to be understood as happy, freed women and harbingers of a new matriarchic age. Nanas can for example be found at the banks of the river Leine in Hanover, where the artist had one of her first spectacular solo exhibitions.
Niki's biggest project was the "Tarot Garden" she began to work on in Tuscany in 1979. This garden stretches over an entire landscape and has accessible Nanas.
In 1988 Niki de Saint Phalle designed the world-famous "Stravinsky Fountain" at the "Centre Georges Pompidou" together with Tinguely. From the 1950s Niki de Saint Phalle has shown her work at numerous international exhibitions and became known as the artist who introduced the determinant theme of the female life principle to art history. In 1994 Niki de Saint Phalle moved to California on her doctor's advice to benefit from the mild climate. There she worked on her last large series of works, a playful hommage to Tinguely's movable sculptures, the "Exploding Pictures".
Niki de Saint Phalle died of emphysema on May 22, 2002 as a consequence of years of inhaling toxic polyester fumes while working on her art projects. Posthumously the artist's success continues. In 2003 her former colleauges completed and inaugurated her Baroque grotto in the "Herrenhäuser Gärten" in Hanover, a brilliantly colorful, glittering work of art composed of glass mosaics, stones and figures.

Henri Cartier- Bresson was born in 1908, in Chanteloupe , France, of middle-class parents.

His sharp-shooter’s ability to catch "the decisive moment," his precise eye for design, his self-effacing methods of work, and his literate comments about the theory and practice of photography made him a legendary figure among contemporary photojournalists.

In 1931, at the age of 22, Cartier-Bresson spent a year as a hunter in the West African bush. Catching a case of backwater fever, he returned to France to convalesce. It was at this time, in Marseille, that he first truly discovered photography. He obtained a Leica and began snapping a few pictures with it. It was a pivotal experience. A new world, a new kind of seeing, spontaneous and unpredictable, opened up to him through the narrow rectangle of the 35 mm viewfinder. His imagination caught fire. He recalls how he excitedly "prowled the streets all day, feeling very strung-up and ready to pounce, determined to ‘trap’ life, to preserve life in the act of living."

"In photography, the smallest thing can be a great subject," he wrote in ‘The Decisive Moment’. "The little human detail can become a leitmotif." Most of his photography is a collection of such little, human details; concerned images with universal meaning and suggestion. He lived in a haunted world where mundane facts, a reflection in a mud-puddle, an image chalked on a wall, the slant of a black-robed figure against mist, radiate significance at once familiar and only half-consciously grasped. His was an anti-romantic poetry of vision, which finds beauty in "things as they are," in the reality of here and now.
All his great pictures were taken with the kind of equipment owned by many amateur photographers: 35 mm rangefinder cameras equipped with a normal 5Omm lens or occasionally a telephoto for landscapes.
Along with Dr. Erich Salomon and Alfred Eisenstaedt, he was a pioneer in available light photojournalism, and would no sooner intrude flash or flood into his pictures than would a fly fisherman toss rocks into a pool where he hoped to catch a prize trout.
By having so skillfully exploited the camera’s ability to transfix a moment in time’s flow, Cartier-Bresson has left us a treasure of images. We can, through his eyes, see the world a little more clearly, and find truth and beauty where we had not guessed they existed.
